After seeing Miss Saigon in London as a child, I bought the
musical’s cassette tapes (for the clarity of our readers, “I” is Beth in this case. Geoff most certainly never owned Miss Saigon tapes), listening to them so many times that the ribbon finally snapped.
Still today I think I could sing every
song!
So, I actually squealed in glee
when I learned that Lea Salonga – the musical's original star – was coming to Dubai
for a two-day show.
And she dazzled – singing hits from her roles
in Aladdin, Mulan and of course, Miss Saigon.
She also killed other theatre
performances as well as a couple of Filipino songs, which drove the largely
Pinoy audience wild. And even
though we didn’t understand a word she was singing in those instances, my theatre-buff friend, Jean, and I both felt a little
like we were part of the home crowd for this intimate, welcoming and brilliant
evening.
